CASHING A CHECK

  • Who provides the TaggPay service?

  • The TaggPay service is provided to you by First Century Bank, N.A., a nationally chartered bank, so your checks and your money are always cleared and handled by a national bank regulated by the federal government until they reach your account issuer.

    The service is enabled and facilitated by Flipcheck Ventures Inc., which provides the mobile app technology and other related services. The check review, approval and guarantee are performed by the local financial service provider where you registered. Wherever we use the terms "we" or "us," we are referring to First Century Bank, Flipcheck Ventures Inc., and/or the neighborhood financial service provider where you registered, depending on the context.

  • What is TaggPay?

  • We are a fintech company that provides patent pending, mobile RDC technology to neighborhood financial service providers. We offer an innovative way for check cashing and currency exchange customers to use their mobile phones to remotely cash checks and load the proceeds onto their linked bank debit and prepaid card accounts.

    Check cashing and currency exchange customers should be able to access their money right on your phone just like everybody else. It's your money and your worked hard for it. So, use TaggPay and save time, money, avoid traveling, and waiting in lines.

    Get the convenience of RDC from the retail service center you know and trust. Stuck at home or work and unable to get to the check cashier or currency exchange before it closes. No problem. Once your check is approved, we provide access to your money in minutes. No worries.

  • What kinds of checks can I cash via the app?

  • You can submit most checks you presently cash with your neighborhood financial service provider for approval via the TaggPay App, from $5.00 up to $2,500.

    This includes payroll, business, and government checks, handwritten payroll checks, insurance checks, attorney checks, cashier's checks, money orders, rebate checks and refund anticipation checks. All checks must be made payable to you, endorsed by you and drawn on a bank account in the United States or a U.S. territory. Please note that we typically don't accept checks that aren't made out to you, conditional endorsement checks, counter checks, credit card checks, customer appreciation certificates, gift certificates, starter checks, traveler's checks or warrants. Check with the neighborhood financial service provide where you registered for details.

  • What are the check limits?

  • TaggPay and your neighborhood service provider will review most check types for funding approval from $5.00 up to $2,500. Your use of TaggPay will be limited to $2,500 per check, $5,000 worth of checks per day and $10,000, worth of checks per month. The issuer of your bank debit card, prepaid card, or other funding account may impose additional daily, monthly, account balance or other limits. See your Cardholder or Account Agreement for more information.

  • Why is there a fee for the service?

  • To cash a check and get your money in minutes, the fee is not more than 4.50%, plus 99 with a minimum fee of $3.00. Rates may be lower for certain types of checks and from different neighborhood service providers.

    To provide this service to you, we incur expenses in four key areas:

    Check clearing and settlement - When we approve a check and send your money to the account you selected in minutes, behind the scenes, the check is sent to the Federal Reserve to clear and settle it with the check issuer's bank. That process typically takes a few days, which means that we incur interest expense until we receive good funds.

    Bounced and non-payment checks - From time to time, checks don't clear because there isn't enough money in the check issuer's bank account. Other times, there are problems with checks that prevents them from being paid. When checks do not clear we may never get the money, but we have already given you your money, and it is always guaranteed.

    Transaction processing - For us to send your money in minutes to thousands of accounts issued by banks across the country, we must use network processors like Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Maestro, Star, Pulse, and many others. The networks and various other third-party processors we use depends on the funding account you choose. Regardless, they all have associated fees and processing costs.

    Technology systems and servicing - Building and maintaining our technology, continually improving our app, processing checks, accessing third-party information databases, and providing outstanding service to our customers is the other primary area of cost.

    We continue to invest to make our service better and more efficient so you can get your money quickly and conveniently.

  • When will my money be available?

  • With TaggPay, if your check is approved and you agree to the fee then you can get your money in minutes.

    When you submit a check in the TaggPay App, review for approval typically takes under 15 minutes. In some instances, review may take up to one hour while we work to verify sufficient information to approve your check. If your check is approved, we will send your money immediately to the bank or prepaid account you choose using your linked debit or prepaid card account number. If you want to send money to more than one place, you can split your check to send money to multiple accounts.

    Most banks and prepaid card issuers will make your funds available in your account in minutes so you can immediately make purchases, pay bills or access cash at an ATM. But note, some banks may take up to 48 hours. We have no control over how your bank(s) and/or card issuer(s) handle your funds once received.

    Other transaction fees and costs, terms and conditions may be associated with the use of your bank debit card and prepaid card. See your Cardholder or Account Agreement for more information on the terms associated with your cards and/or accounts.

  • How do I locate the nearest service provider?

  • Interested in becoming a TaggPay user? Ask your neighborhood check cashier or currency exchange if they are a TaggPay agent. Assuming they are then complete the in-store registration, download the app, activate your account, and start using TaggPay to remotely cash your checks. If not then either visit www.taggpay.com and click on the "Find Service Provider" tab or download the app, activate your account then from the Main menu tap "Find Service Providers". It's that simple!

  • Where can I download the TaggPay App?

  • You can download the TaggPay App either from the App Storesm for iOS devices or from the Google PlayTM Store for Android devices. Follow the prompts to activate your account. To complete your account registration, you will need to visit a participating neighborhood financial services provider. They will take your picture, verify your identity, and confirm your personal information to complete your account set-up.

  • Why do I need to turn on location services?

  • TaggPay uses mobile geo-location services as an added risk mitigation tool to confirm you are in the United States and to assess whether your phone is in an unusual location when submitting a check. If you do not have geo-location services enabled, you will be prompted in the app to enable location services before you can cash a check.

    To enable location services on an Android device:

    • Close the TaggPay App
    • Tap "Settings"
    • Scroll down and tap "Location"
    • Turn on the "Location Service"
    • Tap "Agree" on the "Location Consent" screen
    • On the "Improve Location Accuracy" screen, we recommend you tap "Agree" to enable "Google's Location Service" (it is not required that you enable this service, but it will provide a better customer experience)
    • Close "Settings"
    • Proceed to the TaggPay App to cash a check

    To enable location services on an iPhone:

    • Close the TaggPay App
    • Tap "Settings"
    • Scroll down and tap "Privacy"
    • Tap "Location Services"
    • Make sure "Locations Services" is enabled
    • Scroll down, tap the "TaggPay App" and choose "While Using the App"
    • Close "Settings"
    • Proceed to the TaggPay App to cash a check
  • Why should I turn on push notifications?

  • Enabling push notifications on your mobile device when you use the TaggPay App allows you to receive immediate transaction status updates during the check review/approval process, even if you close the app in the middle of a check cashing transaction. Push notifications will allow you to stay informed about any required actions to complete the review process and get your money as quickly as possible.

    Your Android device will enable push notifications on the TaggPay App by default. If you disable push notifications and want to re-enable the notification service:

    • Close the TaggPay App
    • Tap "Settings"
    • Scroll down to the Applications tab and tap the "TaggPay App"
    • Enable "Show Notifications"
    • Close Settings
    • Proceed to the TaggPay App to cash a check

    To enable push notifications on an iPhone:

    • Close the TaggPay App
    • Tap "Settings"
    • Tap "Notifications"
    • Confirm "Allow Notifications is enabled"
    • Set your Notification Options
    • Close Settings
    • Proceed to the TaggPay App to cash a check
  • Why the request for all my personal information?

  • We take the risk on the checks we approve. Sadly, everyone isn't honest. We use your Social Security Number and other personal information to verify your identity, comply with legal and regulatory requirements, and to help us identify and prevent potential check fraud.

  • Is my data secure?

  • The security of your profile and account information is of paramount importance to us. So, we store your information in systems designed to prevent unauthorized access by others and we only share your personal information as outlined in our Privacy Policy.

  • Why can't I register in the TaggPay App?

  • You will not be able to register if TaggPay cannot verify your identity-for instance, if your name and address don't match or your name and Social Security Number don't match. Please be sure to check that all your information and confirm that your name matches the one on your Social Security card. It is equally important that this information matches what you provided your neighborhood financial service provider during in-store registration. If you're still having trouble registering, please email us at help@taggpay.com or visit the neighborhood financial service provider where you registered.

  • How do I reset my password?

  • If you can't remember your password, or if you wish to change it, proceed to Log In and tap "Forgot?" to the right of the Password Field. You will be prompted to enter your email address. We will email a temporary password to the email address we have on record that you can use to sign-in. You will then be prompted to create a new password.

  • Why isn't my username working?

  • Your TaggPay username is the email address you used when you registered. If you don't remember it or it does not seem to work, proceed to Login and tap "Forgot?" to the right of the Email Field. You will be prompted to enter your phone number and zip code. We will email the email address associated with your telephone number to the email address we have on record that you can use to sign-in.

  • How do I update my personal information?

  • You can update your Profile, set up your PIN or Change your Profile, right in the app. Sign-in to the TaggPay App, go to the Main menu, tap the " >" to the right of your name, then follow the appropriate prompts.

  • Why is my account on hold?

  • Your account may be placed on hold for a variety of reasons, like an inability to verify your identity, bounced or non- paid check, or submission of a check that triggers a security or fraud review. If your account is on hold, we recommend you send an email to help@taggpay.com or visit the neighborhood financial service provider where you registered so you can learn the reason your account is on hold.

  • How do I suspend or cancel my account?

  • We are sorry to see you go. Since TaggPay does not require a membership, there is nothing for you to cancel. Simply uninstall the TaggPay App on your mobile device. We hope to see you back again soon!

  • How do I link my bank or prepaid accounts?

  • To use TaggPay, you must link at least one bank account or prepaid card to your TaggPay user profile so that we have an account on record to which we can send your money. From the Main menu, tap "Manage Accounts", then tap "Add a Card" and follow the screen prompts to add your bank debit and prepaid card accounts.

  • Does any bank or prepaid work?

  • TaggPay can be used to fund most active bank and prepaid card accounts. To link your accounts in the TaggPay App, open the main menu and tap "Manage Accounts", then tap "Add a Card" and follow the screen prompts to add your bank debit and prepaid card accounts. If your account is not eligible for funding in the TaggPay App, you will be notified right in the app.

  • Can I link multiple funding accounts?

  • Absolutely! From the Main menu tap "Manage Accounts", then tap "Add a Card" and follow the screen prompts to add eligible bank debit and prepaid cards. You choose the account or accounts you want to fund on every check you cash, or you can split the funds from your approved check across multiple accounts to send money any place you need it.

  • How do I update my funding accounts?

  • For security reasons, you can't edit existing bank debit and prepaid card account information. Simply sign-in to the TaggPay App and from the Main menu, tap "Manage Accounts", then tap "Add a Card" and follow the screen prompts to add your new bank debit or prepaid card accounts. Then tap the "Delete" icon next to the account you wish to remove and follow the prompts.

  • How much does it cost to cash a check?

  • To cash a check and get your money in minutes, the fee is not more than 4.50%, plus 99 with a minimum fee of $3.00. Rates may be lower for certain types of checks and from different neighborhood service providers. We will review your check for approval in a few minutes, although in some instances it can take up to an hour. If your check is approved, we send your money in minutes to the accounts you selected. Most banks and prepaid card issuers, will make your funds available in your account in minutes so you can immediately make purchases, pay bills or access cash at an ATM.

    If your check isn't approved, your account will not be funded and no fees will be assessed.

    Other transaction fees and costs, terms and conditions may be associated with the use of your bank debit card or prepaid card account. See your Cardholder or Account Agreement for more information on the terms associated with your accounts.

  • How do I take a picture of a check?

  • The TaggPay App features automatic image capture, so it is easy to take pictures of your check!

    When ready, sign-in to the TaggPay App and tap "Cash a Check" and follow the prompts. We eliminate the hassle and guesswork. It's that simple!

    Do not endorse the back of your check until prompted. Also, make sure the lighting in the room you are in is good. Place the check on a solid-colored background and make sure none of the check information is covered up. Remember to position your mobile device over the check at a slight angle so that you don't cast a shadow on the check. Fit the corners of the check inside the guidelines and watch the box turn green.

    If auto image capture moves too quickly for you, or your device doesn't support it, you can take a picture manually by tapping the camera button on your mobile device.

  • How do I choose where to send my money?

  • Every time you submit a check, you choose the accounts you want to send your money to right in the app. Don't worry, the app will guide you.

    To cash a check, you must first link your accounts in TaggPay. From the Main menu, tap "Manage Accounts", then tap "Add a Card" and follow the screen prompts to add your bank debit and prepaid card accounts.

  • Why am I being asked to 'VOID' my check?

  • To prevent a check from being cashed or deposited twice. After TaggPay pre-approves (final approval and funding are subject to you completing the check voiding and final submission process, and acceptance of fee and terms) your check, you will be prompted to write 'VOID' (in black or blue ink) across the front of your check and perform some other risk mitigation tasks. Once completed, you will submit a photo of the voided check. Once we confirm that your correctly voided check image has been submitted, we will send your money to the account(s) you selected.

    Do not write 'VOID' on your check or perform these other risk mitigation tasks until you are prompted to, which will happen after you receive confirmation that your check has been pre-approved.

  • What do I do with my check after I submit it?

  • If we pre-approve (final approval and funding are subject to you completing the check voiding and final submission process, and acceptance of fee and terms) your check, you will be asked to void your check and send a picture of your voided check to us for review before we release your funds to your selected accounts. Hold on to your check until you receive confirmation in the app. Also, you can check your bank account or prepaid card balance to confirm that your funds have been posted to your selected account(s) by the account issuer.

    Remember that while most banks and prepaid card issuers make funds available to spend immediately, some banks may take up to 48 hours to post your funds.

  • Why wasn't my check approved?

  • All checks submitted to TaggPay are subject to review for approval, and most of the checks we review are approved to be cashed via the app. There are times, when we may be unable to approve a check to be cashed via the app because of inconsistencies in check image, limit-related issues, or other risk factors. In such cases, you may be advised to visit the neighborhood financial service provider where you registered, to cash your check in-person.

    There will be other times when we are unable to approve a check due to insufficient check verification data, or information about the check writer's account. Unfortunately, we cannot always tell you exactly why a check is declined because privacy regulations prevent us from sharing a check writer's account information with you.

    Below are some examples of reasons we may require in-person processing or decline a check entirely:

    • Check was not written to you, as your name appears on your TaggPay account
    • Check was not endorsed or was endorsed prematurely
    • Amount of the check is less than $5.00 or more than $2,500
    • Amount of the check will cause you to exceed the daily, weekly or monthly funding limits for your selected account
    • Amount of the check will cause you to exceed the check, daily, or monthly check cashing limits set by TaggPay. See check limits
    • Check images are illegible or do not pass authenticity screening
    • Check is a single-party check (drawn on another account you own), a temporary check, a credit card check or another unusual check type we don't support
    • A properly voided image of the check was not received
    • The check writer's account could not be verified
    • Check was written on a closed account
